  Pronouncing it RIGHT

  what rules do you follow when pronouncing foreign names/places/things?

  i was remembering that when we were studying the daniel book for the book study back in the day, someone released a pronunciation guide.

  i remember studying it closely so i could pronounce all the names right (especially on the section of daniel 11).

  hi everyone; this is my first post.

  yes, a long long time ago my grandmother, freshly immigrated from post-war england to rural australia, waiting for months for her husband to follow, with only her baby for company, heard a knock at the door.

  she opened it and there were two witnesses, who, after hearing how she'd just been crying in the kitchen, begging god for a friend, probably couldn't have believed their luck.

  Hi gorgia,

  My grandfather was the one who answered the door and bought the set of books for his wife who was grieving over the death of her mother. My grandmother converted and well, all her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids have had some connection with the JWs.

  Fortunately, most of us are out.

  I'm also from Australia - my family were from Sydney.

  Anyone know of any effective but simple diets/diet tips? Weight gain after giving up smoking!

  i'm really struggling with this.

  i gave up smoking a few months back and have put on around 20lbs already.

  i've gone up another dress size and i wasn't slim to begin with!

  Calling all Aussies and Kiwis

  if u don't mind saying if u r kiwi or aussie, and basic info like m/f, how long in, how long out, or if fading like me.. im female i live in aussie but born in nz fading the last few months.

  know it ain't the truth, but am married with little kids and closest family and friends all in.

  trying the slow fade and hoping my husband will do the same... being very gentle with him... .

  Born in, left by fading 12 years ago. Not df'd nor da'd. Family still speak to me but it hasn't been easy.

  random discussion today ended up in my wife mentioning when she saw halley's comet (1986?

  ) and all of a sudden i had a total recall moment!.

  when it came by, rather than make the effort to watch it, i flippantly said "nah, i'll see it next time!".

  If the SDA can prevent him from becoming the next Lindsay Lohan or Whitney Houston, Heath Ledger, what can't we wish the best for him? He's a kid for God's sake, give him a break

  I actually agree. He's young, he'll probably find another religion to join in 12 months' time.

  robert, i've given you my contact information and i'm going to pm it again - please please please pass it along to whomever has the cat right now.. i have pets, and it would kill me to think that, if i were dreadfully sick or lay dying, that my beloved pets were going to be dumped into an animal pound or put down, just because no one would take them..... to you, perhaps, it's just a cat, but the cat was oompa's 'friend', and i'd like to try to save him.. as to 'biting' - heck, i've two cats right now who are - actually, were - 'biters'.

  they both stopped biting after they'd been here in a loving, stable environment for a while - well, that, and when they bit me, i grabbed 'em by the scruff and told them in no uncertain terms that that sort of behavior would not be tolerated.... both have stopped biting - well, chomper [guess how he got his name?

  ] still gives me little 'love nips', but nothing like he used to.... so please, let's not write off oompa's cat yet!!!.

  Black Tie etiquette.

  ok. it's 12:30 in england, i have to go to bed but i just wanted to throw this one in.. i went to a jw funeral yesterday.

  not one black tie in the whole congregation.

  no witness would dream of wearing a black tie to a funeral.

  Also, IMO Queen Victoria took the whole mourning thing very far. She wore black for the rest of her life.

  In many European countries, it's common for the widow to wear black for the rest of her life. It's just that in our modern Western society it's not so common any more.

  Queen Victoria is also the one who introduced wearing white for brides.
